This A-level course, at Aquinas College in Stockport, gets us to undertake simulated professional briefs with new groups for each project. We create logs of our research, idea development and creative decisions, which helps me critically evaluate my work and behaviour. By being assigned emulated industry roles, we familiarise ourselves with the responsibilities of different film crew members, and create industry-standard documents. We shoot as a group before editing individually using Adobe Premiere Pro. The briefs given throughout the course are a product advertisement, short film drama (see right - we won 5 awards for this project, including for my directing and cinematography), magazine show with factual features, and a music video. My past roles include producer, camera operator, director, and project manager. This course has deepened my understanding of how the screen industries operate and how to build relationships with other creatives when producing art together. Alongside each video project, we create ancillary products, such as posters, audio and/or photography.

For my Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), I created a 27-minute documentary on the history of Buxton, where I live, and how the town's famous waters have shaped it into what it is today. I attended meetings with local organisations, analysed over 40 sources, including books, journal articles and websites, conducted multiple interviews and had private tours of multiple locations. Over 4.5 hours of footage was filmed, then edited into the final piece using Premiere Pro: I selected the best takes, added my own B-roll, inserted interview segments and added era-relevant music. This process developed my confidence in reaching out to organisations, and improved my scriptwriting, editing, time management, location filming and presenting skills.
I aim currently planning to share a shortened version of the film with both local residents and tourists.
I have created videos for YouTube for over 10 years, and it is a fun and effective way of developing my filmmaking skills outside of my college course, plus I get to delve into subjects not covered my the course. I have many different active series, including music, comedy, interviews, games, podcasts and travel. The video podcasts are also available on Spotify.
To the left are two of the videos that I am most proud of.
AQTV is one of Aquinas College's media societies, where we have previously filmed trivia episodes, quizzing students around the college, and are now expanding to also include video podcasts, in collaboration with the college podcasting society.
On the projects, I have been the main researcher, editor and live vision mixer (for the podcasts - see right)
3 day course, run by Aquinas College, with mentoring from students from the University of Salford.
Created in partnership with students from Salford University
Day 1 - Planned what we would need to choreograph and film the next day.
Day 2 - Filmed at our college (I was the director and one of the camera operators); I then edited all the footage into the video on the left, before the presentation the next day. The choice of the song Iron Sky, by Paolo Nutini was very purposeful, as it features a spoken section from the 1940 film The Great Dictator, which includes the line "You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful [...] Let us use that power! Let us all unite!" which is very appropriate to the brief 'Voices for Justice'.
Day 3 - Created a presentation, which included the video, to explain our creation and development process to the other two groups (with different briefs, about fashion and documentaries) and a small group of college meda/dance/arts staff
The award winning children's author reached out to me to edit her footage into an engaging promotional video for her books, aimed at young children. She then used this video to show the schoolchildren her books before she went there herself.
University of Manchester's student television station commissioned me to edit three episodes of their Jenga gameshow called Blockheads. This is a project that I worked particularly hard on, and therefore really helped my proficiency in working in Premiere Pro, as well as working with a client - I worked with the director to make revisions before the final versions were uploaded. Below is the final timeline of all 3 episodes.
The Creativity Conference is a conference that is held in various major cities across the globe, that gets some of the world's most creative minds to talk about and explore the essence of creativity. Previous speakers have ranged from NASA spokespeople and Microsoft lead designers, to movement directors and best-selling authors.
I am the chief editor and manager of all the Creativity Conference social media pages - Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and X. I take the footage from talks and interviews that the conference records and edit them into interesting, meaningful and digestible short-form content to help drive engagement and awareness for the Creativity Conference. I accompany these posts with key quotes from the talks, and share these clips/quotes three times a week.
I am also the Community Admin for The Creative Community - a place for creatives to talk, share and connect. I post regularly to spark discussion and react to posts to drive connections.
